Valkyries are figures from Norse mythology known as the "choosers of the slain." These warrior maidens serve Odin, the chief of the gods, and are tasked with selecting brave fallen warriors on the battlefield to bring to Valhalla, the hall of the slain. In Valhalla, these chosen warriors prepare for Ragnarok, the prophesied end of the world, by engaging in daily combat and feasting. Valkyries are often depicted as beautiful and fierce, riding winged horses and armed with spears. They symbolize both the brutal and rewarding aspects of warfare, simultaneously harbingers of death and bestowers of eternal honor.
